one step at a time

At first he was just a sign that I wasn't gonna be late for work.

But then, I began to took notice.
He is tall and babyface, which I have to admit is really my type, ewan ko ba kung bakit naligaw doon kay Tortilos.

I usually see him moving, in a plain yet radiant long sleeves polo shirt that matches his skin tone, listening to some mysterious music, through Paseo Avenue . As each day passes, as I hurry to get to work, grows the eager fascination of again seeing him.

I thought I wouldn't get to see him again.

Then, today, the fates smile upon me.

As if being reminded by Jordin Sparks, whose song I was hearing over my radio phone as I caught a glimpse of him, I need to take it

One step at a time
There's no need to rush
It's like learning to fly
Or falling in love
It's gonna happen when it's
Supposed to happen that we
Find the reasons why

on the wedge

I always had a fascination for wedge shoes. They give height and comfort. They are elevated in the same way that you have this inkling that you won't slip. After all, the height that you need is very well supported.

Moreover, I always believed that the wedge shoes aren't that vulnerable.

I was wrong, I heard my right heel crack.
Nasira yung shoe ko!

Buti nalang may dala akong slippers and i had an extra pair of shoes here in the office

Schizo Tendencies

even a computer gets a virus, thus comes the old adage, nobody is perfect.

********

I was on my way home, riding the MRT with my friend, Mary. When she suddenly whispered, "Bans, tignan mo yung babae oh, nagsasalitang siyang mag-isa." Refering to a lady sitting infront of us. At first I thought she was talking about the morena girl who came in with a coworker, obviously, because they were both in uniform.
So I told her, "hindi no, ayun yung kausap nya" my lips pursing towards her companion who was standing.

"Hindi yan yung katabi nya,"
Sure enough the one seated next to morena girl was having a candid conversation. She looked happy, smiling infact as she told her story.

But to whom? My head searched the entire stretch, to prove Mary that she was not speaking to herself.

Well her eyes were fixed straight ahead, but she couldn't be talking to the girls in our bench, since most of them were blocked by people already standing with heads back. Nor the person seated next to hers, because I remember her coming in with a book, and now slightly dozed off.

That was when Mary shuddered, "Schizo sya."

Yup, I was assured of that, she was babbling, laughing to herself. Then, I too couldn't stop laughing as the girl could not stop talking.

It hit me, as I realized, what was I laughing at, the girl or me?

I simply giggled, "ako din may ganyang tendencies, lahat namn tayo diba?"

Come on, you might have more than once caught yourself talking to no one but your shadow?
There have been many times I have been monologue-ing to my pillow at home or the computer at the office.

Some of my coworkers even took notice of this strange habit, which I jokingly replied that i was talking to "Left and right" and "up and down".

for fun, my boss wrote on my wishlist picture frame para kina left at right. Making the big boss, ask me to explain what it was.

it's not as if I don't catch him blabbing to no one but himself, or should I say the computer monitor?

I know that this is a strange habit that was why I often chew gum to keep my mouth busy from talking.

As I was nearing my stop, Quezon Ave, the second to the last, Mary and I were fooling around with each other on whose block the monologuing girl would get off.

We were both unsure of her, especially since the whole ride we were looking at her and in jest scaring each other.

Well, she did get off at my stop.

Stolen French Fries

Which fast food has the best french fries? Is it Jollibee's crispy you could hear it in your ears cackling as you bite in to the thinly cut "potatoes? Maybe McDonald's salty goodness that you don't care if its only 2% of real vegetable. Maybe KFC thickly cut fries covered with breading that that only Col. Sanders knows

OH french Fries, its like a cycle you grab a piece or two from that the nest of fries then dip into the ketchup then finally to your mouth. It's repetitive cycle that you just can't abhor until you run out of those fake oil-dipped potatoes , you just cant' get enough its tempting.

Maybe, the best question, is which fries are worth stealing?
He was getting us fries! OMG!

quietly freaking out, i could feel my eyes popping out of my face. I couldn't face the counter nor the one assisting us, who seemed to be going for it.

I couldn't believe it! Joimz, my cousin was getting away with it. All he really did was show the staff the card and Presto! Free Fries! Gosh! I was not gonna eat that, and I told my cousin just that.

It was something like Phoebe Buffay's stolen shoes going every time she walked, "not mine, not mine". I could imagine with each bite sounding "hin-di sa-yo, hin-di sayo"
Ay naku!

It was an ordinary sunday afternoon, just the two of us discussing future business plans, so we both went to a Tito's house. Then decided to grab a bite at a nearby fast food, which was KFC. He ordered the newest thing on the menu, the KFC SNACKBOX, while I went for something ordinary, a burger and fries.

A slow day for the resto, because there were only us and two tables occupied. The reason why, maybe there were no waiting chicken nor fries for us. So the cashier gave me a card for my waiting fries.

We took our seat at a nearby table. And i left Joimz to get a few condiments, ketchup, gravy, water that sort of thing. And as i had my tray of nearly everything i wanted, the cashier gave me my fries.

So we had everything then , right? We were about to finish our meal, when we noticed that we still had our card which would signal the staff to bring us something.
So my cousin and I thought of a dare. He said he could do it!
If no one notices, I'm gonna treat him to a movie, but if someone does,ah, he'll have to pay for my ticket.
So he called on the nearest staff member, the one clearing the table next to ours and brought to his attention that we were still waiting for something. FRIES!

Joimz eyes were focused on the guy, but then.
Yes, but then.

Phew!

The cashier who took our order asked the staff what it was for, then she approached us.

She and Joimz had a little discussion.
i couldn't bare to look, much less my deaf ears couldn't eavesdrop on what they were talking about? Were we gonna get our fries? Was he gonna get away with it?
And then, I found the cashier nodding and smiling towards my cousin.
Okay, cool it!
Nagpalusot lang pala ito, wahhahaahhaahha!!!! akwakakakak!!!!! He only asked about the snack box and not anymore the fries!

Bow!

Re-Bond Girl

I'm a rebonded girl, well my hair is. I never thought I'd have chemicals on my hair, because on my list of nevers, one of them is to never color thy hair.

It was just an urge, that made me do it. After all, i've been saving up for it, it cost me PhP2,500 (as of this writing october 24, 2008). My mind was fixed on the idea of sitting on a chair for hours to get me prettier, to have my hair noticeably straight. SO i did not just want to waste my money, I asked for friends where they think the best place for a rebond is. My mom and i asked around for price range.

That's how I ended up in F salon, retiro. The service was great, the owner would always attend to us, her customers and even gave drinks, C2 for moi! What more my stylist, Phil, was nice. He commented on my hair being soft and easy to rebond coz it was still "virgin hair", meaning it never had a treatment, Never been colored, permed or anything of that sort. He gave me tips on how to take care of my hair, he said that i should

AVOID

- mentholated shampoos- going for a swim, sea water, beaches and swiming pool is a no-no now
- getting a relax for my hair, because the relax treatment is acid base and would react harshly with the chemicals used for rebonding my hair.

He also RECOMMENDed:

- taking care of my hair, by having protien, keratene treatments or hot oils in the salon, every month if possible... I thought to myself that mayhbe he was just trying to get some bucks out of me, but hey it did make some sense, right?
what I liked most about the parlor that iwent to was they advised me to go back after three days, the day that i Was allowed to shampoo my hair. It was part of their service to shampoo rebonded customers and check on hair consistency, trim if needed.

********************

the tips that the hair dresser gave me urged me to look for more tips here on the net and i stumbled upon these:
Below is a list of maintenance tips to ensure long lasting straightness of your newly rebonded hair:

1. Never wash the hair with hot water. Lukewarm and cold water is ok.

2. Use a "clarifying" shampoo once a week or twice a month to remove chemical residues, build-ups, mineral deposits. When hair starts to look dull and lifeless, it needs a bit of stripping of acculumated build-ups from conditioners, serums, oils, and other chemicals. If one relies heavily on treatment products and if your hydro supplier is deep well, then this is a must. It is also advisable to use a clarifiying shampoo after getting from chlorinated pools and seawater.

3. Use wide-toothed comb. Avoid using brush.

4. Always use a thermal heating protectant spray like Hairlight Biosilk PPT (available at R. Hortaleza branches) before using thermal styling tools (blower, curling iron, flat iron)

5. When blow-drying hair, use the cold air function. Direct the nozzle down the hair to make the cuticles smooth, flat and closed. This is will add more shine.

6. As much as possible, avoid pony tails, clips, headbands, cap or any way that will create tension to the hair.

7. If going to swimming pool and seawater is inevitable, saturate hair first with lots of conditioner and wear a swimming cap. The conditioner will create a protective barrier so that chlorine and other chemicals in seawater will not penetrate into the hair. FYI, chlorine, as well as UV rays is an oxidating agent and it can alter the structure of the hair, causing reversion to your rebonded hair. Forget the beach.

8. Bleaching/hilites to rebonded hair is okay, but it will create future problems in the succeeding retouch sessions. A temporary spray/mousse hair color or a clip-on colored hair extension is more favorable. Ask me about clip-on (neon-colored) extensions.

Bleached hair / hi-lited sections are processed differently from the rest of the hair. These sections are extremely fragile, and are very quick to process. While virgin hair may get "cooked" for 40 minutes, bleached ones are ready for around 10-15 minutes! The solution used for bleached/hilited sections is different from virgin hair. When ironing, the temperature level for the bleached sections is at lower setting, and the rest of the hair is at higher.

Think of the time-consuming, highly-skilled, labor-intensive method of picking small strands of these hilites sections and doing the said processing, ironing, separating. That is, if you can find a good stylist. Even the high-end salons end up with bad rebond jobs. Worst, burnt hair!

9. Using permanent color to rebonded hair is okay, but it is as damaging as the perm/rebond itself. I don't recommend do-it-yourself home color. It's a risky attempt and end consumer dont have the skills to troubleshoot their own mistakes.

For longer-lasting tint effect with less damage, opt for demi-permanent cellophane (L'oreal "gloss" diacolor, indola vitamin color, "tone-on-tone"). It gives color depth and shine. For washable cellophane with zero damage, look for semi-permanent ones (henna wax by shinemoist, colourshines by sebastian)

Do not undergo any semi-permanent "coating" cellophane treatment 2-3 months before rebonding session, either retouch or full head. This type of cellophane coats the hair strands with a protective layer but washes out after 20-30 shampooings. This layer needs to be totally washed out before undergoing any chemical process (perm, color, rebond) or else it will cause uneven permeation of chemicals, resulting to failure.

10. Recommended product: Kerastase line. Consult a kerastase administrator so he can give a customized ritual according to the texture and condition of your hair. visit www.kerastase.com for product catalogue.

11. Eat lots of protein. Hair is made up of protein. Red meat, soy.
