On Nikki Gil being a prude

Almost everyone was shocked to find out that real life celebrity couple, Nikki Gil and Billy Crawford broke up after five years of being together.
Crawford admitted that it was all his fault. Then, after months of the announcement of their separation, Gil granted an exclusive interview to cosmopolitan, hinting that Crawford had cheated.
In the interview Gil shared that she was a virgin, and commented on people saying, "that I am a stuck up prude na naghoholy holyhan."
Netizens, in several showbiz sites, were quick to  react on Gil's statement  that Crawford "lalaki sya, may pangngayalangan". Saying that it might also have been Gil's fault , and may pagkukulong din sya. After all it takes to tango.
For me, I think the issue here is whether or not Gil was a virgin not. Neither is it about Crawford having needs to fulfill his sexual urges. The issue should be about who cheated, who lied.
Looking their issue from a bigger perspective, would the people react this way to Gil if she had had sexual relations? Crawford was lured (or came voluntarily) into another woman's arms. Is not that enough reason to break someone trust, therefore saying you are truly unworthy of that person.
According to Gil, Crawford had known about her promise of celibacy and had agreed to it. If Crawford did in fact love Gil couldn't he fight off his arousal? Was not the moments he spent with the Maria Mercedes star enough? Couldn't' Crawford comfort his little buddy with his hands.

To the gods of Padre Faura

To the gods of Padre Faura
(a sonnet written in poor light)

Do we all go blind, when the great sun sleeps,
as we thread along your jurisdiction?
Few bulbs of poor wattage, what the street keeps.
Oh how dark the place is, from dusk till dawn.

A glow I use tells me when danger calls.
Worse, it leads to danger, and it's my fault.
On stormy nights, a puddle I may fall,
if it not be for Zeus' thunderbolts.

To the gods of Padre Faura, we ask
A torch, a flame, a little luster more.
Or is this too trivial, you'll let it pass
Should we sacrifice billions worth of pork?
If you cannot light a very simple street,
What more then can we expect from your seat?

***May we implore you to have for us a feel of your divine powers. Allow us to see the fluorescence blaze.
Do heed our call. Do light the path that each of us set foot on.

*The gods of Padre Faura are the justices who work in the Supreme Court, which is along the aforementioned street.

Sweet Buys

Two hours tops, thats all it takes for me to finish a ninety page book. I didn't care whether my parents would be ordering pizza with everything on it, which is my favorite food on the world. All I cared about was finishing the book and knowing what would happen to Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield and their friends, all characters of the book series Sweet Valley Twins. I was so enthralled in the words that I was reading that i wanted to find out what is next and at the same time i didn't want it to end.

But that was then, back when i was still in Grade five. Now, the hundred books that I have collected through the years are now unread and collecting dust on the corner of my room. I was in need of money and my mother was again and again complaining about the stuff in my room. So it came to me that I needed to unload and maybe sell some of my things.

I wasn't sure of how to buy nor sell online but I have heard of sulit.com.ph from friends who have worked in Sales. They say that it a great retail machinery, a quick way to sell things and buy things at an affordable price. So having been a member after this good recommendation, I decided to give sulit a try and sell some of my most valued books.

As I have said before, I am a newbie in the virtual retail industry. I merely followed the pattern that sellers did as I posted my own ad for my books. Some sellers opt to ship while some some would prefer to meet with their buyers, so being located in the heart of the city, i decided to just trust my instincts and place my number for a possible meetup.

I guess trust---in sulit.com.ph---place a crucial role in my first sell. As a new seller, i didn't know what i would encounter, i haven't even bought anything online. Still trusting sulit.com.ph, that they know their users well and it wouldn't place me any harm, made me post my number thus making me profit.

I sold my sweet Valley books to two different buyers from sulit.com.ph. I know that this girls would be flipping through the pages that i once enjoyed.

harry potter

call me the late ana v,. yah, because it was only now that i became hooked on harry potter (the book). i've seen the movies and all that but really didn't enthrall me to go grab a copy of the novel.
not unlike the time traveller's wife which moved me to tears, and i pleaded my sister macaria to gift me with published version. hmm the time traveller's wife held me spell bound, although i already knew the story and all that, i didn't want it to end that i keep on re reading the pages and chapters just so i wouldn't finish the book.

oh well,. yan nanaman ako sumesgue nanaman sa topic,.
well,. because i like the experience (?) seeing a movie and then reading it afterwards i thought, why not try harry potter,. so while doing my end of the year general cleaning, i happened to bump into my brother's unread copy of the bestseller.
i'm currently reading harry potter and the sorcerer's stone and it is good, very good in fact that i've been scouting for a book two, have a copy?

Somebody from My Past

What For?

Browsing, cleaning and throwing away stuff from my old work, I happened to run by some letters written by moi

I guess this was the time the quitting bug bit me. Even though my boss would assure of me a job well done, I was not satisfied with work. It became routinary, calling applicants scheduling them for interviews, organizing their training materials, welcoming them to the company and performing the first day of training, that type of shine. Every day when I wake up, I felt lazy to report to the office.

I wanted more out of it but then i couldn't give it more.

I just wasn't happy.

The Unemployment rate here in the Philippines is on an all time high. but before you decide on anything, think about it first. What does this job that I am about to accept has to offer. It is after all a two way street. You are doing your part and the company is doing his. You will be spending most of your hours at the office. Would you rather sit in a chair and type in front of a computer all day? Would you prefer selling high-end condominiums? Is this the really the career you want to get into?

My one-year stint at Megaworld somehow made me realize this. We were offering jobs to people, but then there were some, who after the interview, would refuse it. They did not want to to tackle the life that was being offered to them. Think about the pros and cons.

subject: what for?

Here I am again asking myself what is the point of all that I am doing? Today, I am supposed to edit the EJDP workbook and proposal letter so that our company's property consultants can have their facts rights. So that clients will be pleased, but what for? dos it make help the go round? Does it ensure a better future? Does it provide for us a greener earth or even an accessible technology? What is the point of all this that I am doing? I know that condos help save space and real estate is a good investment, I've already underlined what will come out of my job. but the satisfaction that comes with it, thats' what I am missing. The joy that you've done something, that's what I am searching for. I don;t know where to look, I guess I should first start with me. Particulary because......................................

professional beggars

Pressed for time, as I was running late, because my sister got me hooked on this show Glee, I had no choice but to run at the waiting jeepney at the corner stop. Thank God that there were vacant seats left for for me and a couple more passengers.

Call me maarte or whatever. However, I didn't want to occupy the empty space next to a certain person. I squirmed my way to the other side just to there would be enough for 'isa pa, oh, isa pa'. Lucky for me, a man who was dressed in a lacoste-type shirt hurried his way to the end of the jeepney and sat in between us.

At first of course the man didn't seem to mind, but then his body language was telling a different story. He had left hand up in the rail thus his back more prominent to the certain person I was avoiding.

I knew who she (or he) was but not by name, rather someone I often see her. She was the middle-aged, tall, dark and skinny woman who positions herself along the over pass on Welcome Rotonda. She sits there all day carrying her child who I think is a year old. Probably haven't even taken a bath. Once, I even saw her giving dirty water to the child.

Of course the first time I saw them (mother and child) I was moved to pity. But then, after riding the same jeepney with them, not even once mind you, I think about where my pity and charity might be going?

Does it really feed them? Maybe they are just part of a sindicato. Or maybe they live in Tagaytay street, a place in our neighborhood that's rounded about by squatters, and all they do is gamble.

Who I really pity is the child. After all, he has a rights. Being used as a mere accessory to earn money for some selfish unemployed means is I think a violation of his rights.

Then what would happen, he would only learn from all of this. Not learn in a good way, mind you, he would take it up and take on begging as a profession.

Does the Philippines have laws against this kind of things?

postscript.
It is easy to say go get a job, but hard for one to get one he really likes. In trying times, beggars cannot be chosers, just go ahead with whatever legal job accepts you.

balik probinsya

After Ondoy hit Metro Manila hard, people are still trying to cope up with surviving especially those who have lost their homes (in Marikina and in Pasay).

Unfortunately, they can not stay in evacuation centers forever. These centers are either schools or like in Pasay, the Cuneta Astodome that serves a purpose. What more there also has been reports of the evacuees acting like beasts (not my words mind you, i'd like to use a direct quote, unfortunately don't have time google on who said it, but i do know that he is a mayor, Malabon I think). Vandalizing the schools and even stealing from these centers. There was a report that they would sneak into teachers' desk and get some safeguarded money. How mean!

Also the government's budget cannot hold them for at least two weeks more. So they are given now a week's time to recuperate. What the government is offering are three choices, balik probinsya, balik bahay and the relocation program

If it was me, I wouldn't take the balik bahay. It was a life-threatening situation that these victims were in. It happened once, it could happen again, if I were to stay here in Manila because my source of income is (doing great) here then I would ask to be relocasted somewhere else. (can I also sell my property?)

Nevertheless, there are those who opt for the BALIK PROBINSYA program that the government is offering. I think that this is a good opportunity for our kababayans who have realized that city life is indeed full of trials( kailangan makipagpukpukan ka para makuha mo yung gusto mo) and for them to start anew in their home provinces.

Manila in the movies is depicted as place where one can start. A place full of glamor and successes where one can get rich in an instant. However that's not real life. That's just media hoaxing us or to put it more bluntly showing the good side of city life.

It fails to show how did one get that level of success. It fails to show the hardships where one has been through. The bosses, be them good or bad, he has been under. The streets he walked from work instead of riding that jeepney, so that he can have dinner. The dinners he fasted upon so that he can buy something he wanted.

This is reality. Success is hard earned and not a bus ride away.

sa mga balaka pumunta: come to manila prepared with a plan and money in your pocket.
if you have a dream, dream big and pursue it with passion.

Tendencies

My new boss, or should I call her my EIC, according to some colleagues has rep to change her mind. Nevertheless who am I to say no to all her demands? After all RHP or simply put rank has privileges.

Beyond my failed search for a cervical cancer survivor, she assigned me to do a different story which was about anorexia.

Luckily enough for me, my friend Cy, has a colleague who once was. So, I researched on the subject matter.

Then i found out the SYMPTOMS (should we call it that?)
1. vomiting
2. compulsive exercises
3. abuses laxatives

There was a time in college that I exhibited these symptoms,, not just the vomiting part. Me wonders if friends noticed it, probably not, am good at keeping secrets about myself eh ( kasi diba sa likod ng pack may counter doon. I remember na hindi ko pa inuubos madlas yung save it for tomorrow. Every weekend, I would not eat because the first time I tried not eating for 24 hours, my stomach flattened quite obviously.

I would get up early in the morning to exercise, even surfing cable TV just looking for a program with people doing some fitness aero on it. I think I was even the one who broke our exercise bike because of iver use. I shied away from the public transportation so I can get more physical activity out of walking ( well also to save money).

But i guess the worst part was my addiction to laxatives. My grandfather had problems with his colon, and he needed some medications for that. He had a supply of castor oil, which he detested because of the insipid taste. So, I took them and almost every day whenever I felt I overate I gulped down one bottle. The taste did not matter. At that time, it was all tasteless, no honestly, it was. When my castor oil supply run out, that was when I turned to Xenekot and Dulcolax. The former was more cheaper although one tablet of the latter does it for me.

Now, I'm not that very much into laxatives, heheh. Infact I eat and eat and eat.

But i do still worry about what it is I take in. I make sure that I eat something healthy and/ or drink a glass of milk everyday.

I'm only sharing these facts because hey maybe you also had anorexic tendencies you just don't know it

Update

i cant believe that its been months since i've blogged about anything.

lately my social life has been active, that my mom kind of getting used to it. Last night from bowling, came home at eleven something, she didn't say a word. Just shushed me, as i was bout to give her a polite peck on the cheek. Obviously disapponted, heheh.

It is a big improvement from the usual get-out-of the-house-malaki-ka-na-go-get-your-own-place text messages. Well, been hanging out with a lot of friends, meeting people and as for the opposite sex, just a lot of textmates lang naman ano ,. hahah. (cornetto pa din ba?)

like who?

well,. i'll share only one because this is one particular case i'd like to rant about

an old classmate from, who i shall label as the perv,. in his messages, both text and chat he has nothing good to say except cutie pie, gorgeous, sweet, innocent and (im about to puke) calls me his girlfriend,. wishing? Please can you make your bola styles a little more subtle
what more he feels he stood me up when i asked him to accompany me to wait for an important meeting. Like duh, as-if. Feeling! First of, it was not a date, second i had friends who i had fun playing billiards while waiting. So, can the perv stop feeling ever so important and stop apologizing.
perv is good looking,. so if anybody out there wants a guy who's only objective is to take a peek into your friendster private pix, he's all yours.

nope i did not allow him, even though those picx were only shots of my childhood,. bwahahha
* * * * *
well, am also happy to find out that tortilos does not diss bad grammar nor neologism. cause bad grammar is a delinquency that i am guilty of.

budul-budul

i feel that i just have to blog about this and let you know that there might be a new operative arising.
I think it might have somthing to do with my job postings, alongside that, asking applicants on the job post to look for me,coz i give my name on the ads.

the man on the other end of the line said that he was Dr. Lacson, i forgot his given name.

sabi nya kasi he has a package for me,. from a relative from the states, since he and his wife just came from there. they're currently in Bel- Air, and were wondering if i could pick it up.

una, ang sabi nya he has a package from a relative in the states, since galing lang daw sila doon

Schizo Tendencies

even a computer gets a virus, thus comes the old adage, nobody is perfect.

********

I was on my way home, riding the MRT with my friend, Mary. When she suddenly whispered, "Bans, tignan mo yung babae oh, nagsasalitang siyang mag-isa." Refering to a lady sitting infront of us. At first I thought she was talking about the morena girl who came in with a coworker, obviously, because they were both in uniform.
So I told her, "hindi no, ayun yung kausap nya" my lips pursing towards her companion who was standing.

"Hindi yan yung katabi nya,"
Sure enough the one seated next to morena girl was having a candid conversation. She looked happy, smiling infact as she told her story.

But to whom? My head searched the entire stretch, to prove Mary that she was not speaking to herself.

Well her eyes were fixed straight ahead, but she couldn't be talking to the girls in our bench, since most of them were blocked by people already standing with heads back. Nor the person seated next to hers, because I remember her coming in with a book, and now slightly dozed off.

That was when Mary shuddered, "Schizo sya."

Yup, I was assured of that, she was babbling, laughing to herself. Then, I too couldn't stop laughing as the girl could not stop talking.

It hit me, as I realized, what was I laughing at, the girl or me?

I simply giggled, "ako din may ganyang tendencies, lahat namn tayo diba?"

Come on, you might have more than once caught yourself talking to no one but your shadow?
There have been many times I have been monologue-ing to my pillow at home or the computer at the office.

Some of my coworkers even took notice of this strange habit, which I jokingly replied that i was talking to "Left and right" and "up and down".

for fun, my boss wrote on my wishlist picture frame para kina left at right. Making the big boss, ask me to explain what it was.

it's not as if I don't catch him blabbing to no one but himself, or should I say the computer monitor?

I know that this is a strange habit that was why I often chew gum to keep my mouth busy from talking.

As I was nearing my stop, Quezon Ave, the second to the last, Mary and I were fooling around with each other on whose block the monologuing girl would get off.

We were both unsure of her, especially since the whole ride we were looking at her and in jest scaring each other.

Well, she did get off at my stop.

Re-Bond Girl

I'm a rebonded girl, well my hair is. I never thought I'd have chemicals on my hair, because on my list of nevers, one of them is to never color thy hair.

It was just an urge, that made me do it. After all, i've been saving up for it, it cost me PhP2,500 (as of this writing october 24, 2008). My mind was fixed on the idea of sitting on a chair for hours to get me prettier, to have my hair noticeably straight. SO i did not just want to waste my money, I asked for friends where they think the best place for a rebond is. My mom and i asked around for price range.

That's how I ended up in F salon, retiro. The service was great, the owner would always attend to us, her customers and even gave drinks, C2 for moi! What more my stylist, Phil, was nice. He commented on my hair being soft and easy to rebond coz it was still "virgin hair", meaning it never had a treatment, Never been colored, permed or anything of that sort. He gave me tips on how to take care of my hair, he said that i should

AVOID

- mentholated shampoos- going for a swim, sea water, beaches and swiming pool is a no-no now
- getting a relax for my hair, because the relax treatment is acid base and would react harshly with the chemicals used for rebonding my hair.

He also RECOMMENDed:

- taking care of my hair, by having protien, keratene treatments or hot oils in the salon, every month if possible... I thought to myself that mayhbe he was just trying to get some bucks out of me, but hey it did make some sense, right?
what I liked most about the parlor that iwent to was they advised me to go back after three days, the day that i Was allowed to shampoo my hair. It was part of their service to shampoo rebonded customers and check on hair consistency, trim if needed.

********************

the tips that the hair dresser gave me urged me to look for more tips here on the net and i stumbled upon these:
Below is a list of maintenance tips to ensure long lasting straightness of your newly rebonded hair:

1. Never wash the hair with hot water. Lukewarm and cold water is ok.

2. Use a "clarifying" shampoo once a week or twice a month to remove chemical residues, build-ups, mineral deposits. When hair starts to look dull and lifeless, it needs a bit of stripping of acculumated build-ups from conditioners, serums, oils, and other chemicals. If one relies heavily on treatment products and if your hydro supplier is deep well, then this is a must. It is also advisable to use a clarifiying shampoo after getting from chlorinated pools and seawater.

3. Use wide-toothed comb. Avoid using brush.

4. Always use a thermal heating protectant spray like Hairlight Biosilk PPT (available at R. Hortaleza branches) before using thermal styling tools (blower, curling iron, flat iron)

5. When blow-drying hair, use the cold air function. Direct the nozzle down the hair to make the cuticles smooth, flat and closed. This is will add more shine.

6. As much as possible, avoid pony tails, clips, headbands, cap or any way that will create tension to the hair.

7. If going to swimming pool and seawater is inevitable, saturate hair first with lots of conditioner and wear a swimming cap. The conditioner will create a protective barrier so that chlorine and other chemicals in seawater will not penetrate into the hair. FYI, chlorine, as well as UV rays is an oxidating agent and it can alter the structure of the hair, causing reversion to your rebonded hair. Forget the beach.

8. Bleaching/hilites to rebonded hair is okay, but it will create future problems in the succeeding retouch sessions. A temporary spray/mousse hair color or a clip-on colored hair extension is more favorable. Ask me about clip-on (neon-colored) extensions.

Bleached hair / hi-lited sections are processed differently from the rest of the hair. These sections are extremely fragile, and are very quick to process. While virgin hair may get "cooked" for 40 minutes, bleached ones are ready for around 10-15 minutes! The solution used for bleached/hilited sections is different from virgin hair. When ironing, the temperature level for the bleached sections is at lower setting, and the rest of the hair is at higher.

Think of the time-consuming, highly-skilled, labor-intensive method of picking small strands of these hilites sections and doing the said processing, ironing, separating. That is, if you can find a good stylist. Even the high-end salons end up with bad rebond jobs. Worst, burnt hair!

9. Using permanent color to rebonded hair is okay, but it is as damaging as the perm/rebond itself. I don't recommend do-it-yourself home color. It's a risky attempt and end consumer dont have the skills to troubleshoot their own mistakes.

For longer-lasting tint effect with less damage, opt for demi-permanent cellophane (L'oreal "gloss" diacolor, indola vitamin color, "tone-on-tone"). It gives color depth and shine. For washable cellophane with zero damage, look for semi-permanent ones (henna wax by shinemoist, colourshines by sebastian)

Do not undergo any semi-permanent "coating" cellophane treatment 2-3 months before rebonding session, either retouch or full head. This type of cellophane coats the hair strands with a protective layer but washes out after 20-30 shampooings. This layer needs to be totally washed out before undergoing any chemical process (perm, color, rebond) or else it will cause uneven permeation of chemicals, resulting to failure.

10. Recommended product: Kerastase line. Consult a kerastase administrator so he can give a customized ritual according to the texture and condition of your hair. visit www.kerastase.com for product catalogue.

11. Eat lots of protein. Hair is made up of protein. Red meat, soy.

if you're wondering about mentholated shampoo:
head and shoulders and i think the sunsilk summer edition
