SHE GREW up right in front of our eyes. We saw her blossom from that kid in the comedy sketch show Ang TV to a versatile actress switching from daring roles like in the film Santa Santita, to comedic roles like in the gag show Banana Split. But now, at 23, Angelica Panganiban seems to be making another change in her life, with wedding rumors a buzzing.
According to some reports, Angelica is set to have a vacation in Africa with longtime careers. Derek is one of the hottest leading men today, while Angelica is praised for her acting range, pulling off roles in dram beau, Derek Ramsay, who is said to be proposing to her there. Last year, they were said to have bought a house together. To put the icing on the cake, Angelica caught the bouquet at her friend Camille Pratts’s wedding.
What’s more, apart from being together for three years, the couple both have establisheda, like in her primetime starrer, Rubi, or comedy, like in her recent movie, Here Comes the Bride.
But those anticipating for Angelica's trip to the altar soon will be disappointed, as the actress does not think much about weddings. She adds, “Kung may mag-o-offer sa akin ng kasal, hindi ko alam kung ano ang mangyayri. Kung gusto akong pakasalan ng tao, sasabihn ko sa kanya, ‘Ikaw ang maghanda. Gusto mo akong pakasalan ‘di ba?’ Hindi na ako magpapaka-stressed.”
This is probably, because she is the type of person who lives in the moment. She does not even have a one-year plan. She explains, “Ayokong ma-frustrate ako. I’d rather live one day at a time. I don’t like to think about what might happen tomorrow. Matagal pa ‘yun, madami pang mangyayari.”
Still, Angelica remains optimistic about getting married someday. “’Yung wedding, para kasing naging tradition na lang siya. Women today only turn to it because they only like the feeling of donning a wedding dress, walking down the aisle and getting married. To me, ‘yung marriage yung importante,” she says.
Although she doesn’t seem like an eager bride, make no mistake about it: Angelica already has an idea of what type of wedding she would like to have. She shares, “Gusto ko sa church. Kailangan sa simbahan talaga. Gusto ko ‘yung church na nasa gitna ng dagat.” she said. One important wedding detail she was quick to point out is no media coverage. “Definitely, maliit na maliit na wedding lang, ‘yung dalawa lang kami--bride and groom,” she says.

So, could Derek be really her groom-to-be? Only time will tell. What Angelica is certain about is that when it comes down to her saying ‘I Do,’ it would be to “someone who is true, masayahin, spontaneous.”


If ever your memory would be erased, and you would have the choice to pick one memory left, what memory would you choose?
I’d rather choose to have my whole memory erased, back to zero. Ang sarap bumalik sa pagkabata, ‘yung wala kang iniisip. You don’t know what problems might come your way.

Whose body would you like to switch with?
Si Ate Vi (actress and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos). People don’t know that it is me right? People respect me and then they don’t know that I am me inside Ate Vi’s body. They respect me because of how I look and of my political stature.

If you would be stuck alone in a deserted island, what item would you like to have?
Cell phone so that I can call for help, or maybe a laptop, para makapag-Internet.

What was you childhood dream?
I wanted to be a nurse, nahiligan na lang talga ‘yung pag-arte.

What do you think is the turning point in your career?
When I did the role of Malen in the film Santa Santita.

MODELS who want to extend their careers beyond the runways, billboards, television commercials, and print ads should take their cue from Sarah Meier. Although she still books modeling stints, Sarah has proven that there’s more to her than her looks. Back when being a music channel video jock was the to-die-for job, Sarah was one of the most popular VJs. And then she got married, and had a kid.
“In those less hectic times, out of the public eye, I was visualizing, conceptualizing, and actualizing my next ten-year plan,” she says.
Now back in the spotlight, she hosts The Dollhouse, a daily morning show from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on U92 FM with model Vicky Herrera. Although she’s proud of her work on radio, she is proudest when she’s being a wife and a mother. “Being a wife and mother are two of the most important, high-paying, rewarding, press-worthy job titles I will ever hold,” she says.


Radio Gaga. “People have been asking me why I decided to do radio after television, implying that it was some sort of a downgrade -- which makes me smile because shifting to radio was actually something I did to improve my hosting skills. As a VJ, you have distractions to help you get away with your job.You can smile, dress to impress, bounce around, and in the case of on-screen material, cut and ‘take two’ when you mess up or forget the information in your script. Radio is live. It's every day, and there’s always a responsibility to talk--in my case, for four hours--make sense, impart substance, and keep people entertained on a daily basis without sounding redundant or dated. I like to challenge. Radio deejay-ing is the boss of this next round that I'm going to enjoy conquering.”

Music’s on Her Radar. “As a daily morning rush hour show, The Dollhouse has a set list of songs that our programmer lines up for us. The order in which we play it on the show is up to us. Once in a while, we get away with highlighting some of our favorite tunes from past decades like on Throwback Thursdays, but generally we keep it current. We're such musically inclined jocks at U92 that you can tune in at any point and know that there is a real selector behind the booth and not just some robot.”

On-Air Mishaps. “Any given day, something can go wrong. I can forget to turn off somebody's microphone, or accidentally play a different song than I introduced. It's live, and that's the beauty of it. When I stop making mistakes, it means I'm ready to take on another challenge.”

Shifting Gears. “Shifting to the new studio and learning how to use the equipment came on the first day Vicky, my partner, and I moved to the morning shift, which means it was also the first time we had to wake up at 4 a.m. instead of come in for our 5 p.m. show, and the first time we had to be on air for four hours. Plus, we were the first two jocks on-air at the new station, so we felt like guinea pigs.”

Morning Person. “I think the thought of waking up at 4 a.m. was more daunting than actually doing it. I tried practising a week before, but we were still doing evening shift, and I just ended up exhausted. Now that I am a morning person, I feel like I maximize my day. I can be your alarm clock, instead of hitting the snooze button on mine.”

A Word on Modeling. “Modeling will teach you some of the most valuable lessons you may need to succeed in any industry--how to present yourself, the discipline of recognizing people's expectations and meeting them, being independent, personable, professional, flexible, and open minded provided you have your head screwed on straight. I've found that people who model for the wrong reasons like revenge, to prove something, or to nurse a self-esteem issue, end up with more problems than when they began. I think that's the long-term truth about modeling that nobody warns anybody about.”

The Only Job Title That Matters. “Being a wife and mother are two of the most important, high-paying, rewarding, press-worthy job titles I will ever hold, and investing quality time for family is essential in success, no matter what your job description is. But I am still both a businesswoman and a creative at heart, and so in those less hectic times, out of the public eye, I was visualizing, conceptualizing, and actualizing my next ten-year plan.”

A Healthy Daily Diet. “Eating is a soul-important quasi-luxury. The conversations and relationships formed over meals are wonderful; as is the love put into preparing them. As long as you have a healthy balance of proper eating and exercise, I've discovered that there is no more effective diet in the universe.”

AMID the hundred and one details you think of on you wedding day, can you ever be the proverbial radiant bride? Although there is no better beauty secret than the glow of happiness on your face as you walk down the aisle toward the groom of your dreams, you still have to check out these beauty trends to be , yes, a radiant bride.

Curl up. “The most popular hairstyle for weddings is the updo. But the trend in gowns today are those with tube top or haltered neckline, and the best hairstyle that goes with such styles is curled hair that cascades down the shoulder,” says Lolita Directo, hairstylist and makeup artist from Freshaire.

More foundation. “What’s in style now is light makeup,” says Lolita. “For occasions such as weddings, however, you'll have to add more foundation than your day-to-day makeup.”

Show your true colors. “Makeup should coordinate with the theme of the wedding. Even the makeup of your entourage members should complement your makeup” Lolita says. "You should standout among the your bridesmaids. We recommend warm, brown shades for color, but fairer brides can opt for cool shades such as blue or violet.”

Know you skin type. “Choose the best makeup for your skin type. For sensitive skin, it is wise to use mineral-based foundation. For oily skin, use liquid foundation.”

Get enough rest. “A beauty rest before your wedding day is a must. Put on night cream before you sleep, and day cream before you put on your makeup,” Lolita adds. She also cautions against using new products for hair and face. "This is not the time to experiment. Stick to your tried and tested brands."

Don’t sweat it. “Too much sweat will ruin your makeup. Use an oil control film and apply enough powder over it. Also, avoid getting too teary-eyed,” Lolita adds, "as this will ruin your eye makeup." “Make sure to keep a tissue handy.”

Meet the metrosexuals-- men who pay more attention on their appearance. They are particular with their looks, be it the number of facial creams they use or the hair removal products that they have tried. Metrosexuals pamper themselves and shell out money, not only on cars and gadgets but also on their beauty products.

The thought of being with a man prettier than you may sound uncomfortable, but worry not. Here are the pros and cons of being with a metrosexual:

The downside: Metrosexuals are picky, even with little stuff such as their cologne and even—gasp—your lipstick color. Sometimes you find yourself trying to measure up to his appearance.

The upside: His being looks-conscious means he has a lot to offer, like being well-groomed and well-spoken. You can proudly show off your guy to either your friends or your ‘rents and not worry about what they would say about his appearance.

The downside: His prep time is longer than yours. You don’t know if it’s the number of hair products he uses or the number of times he changes clothes -- you still have to wait for him as you both get ready for the movies.

The upside: Salon bonding time. More men now prefer going to the salon rather than their trusty barber. Maybe it is because of services like hair spa, manicure, and foot spa, or maybe because they get to spend time with you.

WITH box office movies, hit prime time teleseryes, and a successful recording career under her belt, plus endorsements, and accolades actors her age—and even some actors twice her age—could only dream of, you’d think that Bea Alonzo would be slacking off by now.

Not a chance. “Nasa gitna pa lang ako, madami pa akong kakaining bigas, ang taas pa ng ladder na aakyatin ko,” she tells MOD during her launch as the newest endorser of Tupperware Brands’ Colour Collection’s newest lipstick line, the Moisture Intense Lipstick.

To her credit, Bea, whose real name is Phylbert Angellie Ranollo, really shows her growth as an actress with her every project and she persists on honing her craft.

This is why she sees no negative effects with ABS-CBN’s management’s decision to separate her from John Lloyd Cruz, her on-screen partner in a number of blockbuster movies such as Close to You and One More Chance, and top-rating television shows such as Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay and Maging Sino Ka Man. Bea actually considers it as a big career move.

“I trust the ABS-CBN management. When John Lloyd and I took a break from the love team, it did well for both of us,” she adds.

According to Bea, it helped that she gets offered good projects and that she has supportive fans. “Swerte ako na nabibigyan ako ng right material, ‘yung mga magagandang material, and of course, sobrang overwhelming din ‘yung support ng fans who have been there since Day One,” she says.

During this separation period, Bea got to work with other leading men such as Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay in the tearjerker And I Love You So, while John Lloyd starred in two equally successful movies with Sarah Geronimo—A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life--and went mano-a-mano with no less than Vilma Santos in In My Life.

The separation also helped improve Bea's working relationship with John Lloyd, especially when they worked together again in the recent Miss You Like Crazy, their follow-up project after I Love Betty La Fea on TV, and their reunion movie after One More Chance. “Natutunan naming mag-usap,which hindi namin nagagawa before pa. Natuto kaming mag-usap about our characters,” she says.

Obviously, it paid off, as Miss You Like Crazy was a certified blockbuster, earning P18 million on the first day and surpassing the P100 million mark just after a week.

But alas, Bea’s next project sees her John Lloyd-less again. She has started taping for a soap opposite Gretchen Barretto, tentatively titled Sisters.

“Sobrang nakakatuwa,” she says on working with La Greta. “When I heard that I’d be working with her, doon pa lang na-intimidate na ako, kasi alam naman natin na diyosa ang lola mo,’ no? When I met her, she said na napanood niya ‘yung mga movies ko, and she really likes Miss You Like Crazy. Nag-gain ako ng friend.”

Apart from the prime time soap, Bea will soon be working on a movie titled Sa’yo Lamang, which is to be directed by Laurice Guillen, and to also star Lorna Tolentino, Coco Martin, Enchong Dee, and Erich Gonzales.

The movie is said to be a family drama reminiscent of Tanging Yaman. “Tanging Yaman, kahit panoorin ko ng panoorin, nakakaiiyak pa din at nakaka-touch pa din. Gusto kong makagawa ng ganoon,” Bea says. “Nu’ng narinig ko ‘yung story, excited ako, kasi bago na naman. Bago ‘yung character. Nakakatuwa kasi nafi-feel ko nabe-break ko na ‘yung mababit kong characters or ‘yung usual na prim and proper characters.”

Besides taking on a different character, she also looks forward to co-starring again with Lorna Tolentino, whom she first worked with in her breakout project, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. “Hindi naman ako matututong umarte kung hindi dahil sa kanya, dahil isa siya sa mga unang nag-train sa ‘kin. Despite all the fame and success na natamo niya, sobrang bait niyang tao nu’ng nakatrabaho ko siya,” she says. “I hope, I wish, that someday I could be like her.”

Aside from Sa’Yo Lamang, talks are circulating that Bea is set to team up with matinee idol Aga Muhlach. She says she would be over the moon if ever this project pushes through. The only time she had to work with Aga was when she guested in his defunct sitcom, That’s My Doc. As for the role, she says she just wants something out of the box. “I have no right project in mind. I just want to be surprised all the time,” she says.

Bea hopes for more projects, but most off all, “more learnings.”

“You should never stop dreaming. You should never tell yourself na it’s enough,” she says.

To Each Her Own. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I may find a person gorgeous, but others may think that she is not. As long as you know you have good intentions and you’re comfortable with yourself, and on your own skin, then you can be beautiful.”

Lipstick Jungle. “One makeup product that I cannot leave home without is lipstick, usually in pink or red, and Colour Collection’s Paradise Pink, kasi pwede mo din gawing blush-on ‘yun. If ever I would be stuck on an island and get to bring just one beauty product, I would bring a lipstick.”

Less Is More. “My advice for those who wear makeup is don’t overdo it. Don’t put too much. Baka in the morning naka-smoky eyes ka na. Go with your mood. If I’m feeling girly, I’m wearing pink. Dapat alam mo kung ano ang babagay sa ‘yo.”

Makeup 101. “My signature makeup look is the natural and fresh look. It helps also na mag-search ng makeup tutorials. Naaaliw ako doon. I learn a lot from them.”

No to Vanity. “My beauty regimen consists of sleeping well, eating the right food, and wearing the right makeup. Like my nails, I go to the salon twice a month. I don’t sleep with makeup on, and I moisturize. I’m not vain.Pero ‘yung mga maintenance na kailangang gawin, ginagawa ko.”

The Amazon river according to wikipedia is the largest river (Nile River is the Longest) in the world with a total river flow greater than the next ten largest rivers combined. The Amazon, which has the largest drainage basin in the world, accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flowthen a dam project comes over.

Director James Cameron said Monday that a real-life "Avatar" battle is playing out in Brazil's Amazon rain forest (the largest rain forest and most species rich tract of land), where indigenous groups are trying to halt the construction of a huge hydroelectric project.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Cameron said he was in Brazil's capital to support Indian and environmental groups as they stage protests against the Belo Monte dam project.

"I'm drawn into a situation where a real-life 'Avatar' confrontation is in progress," Cameron said in a telephone interview while en route to protests taking place in front of the Mines and Energy Ministry.

"What's happening in 'Avatar' is happening in Brazil and places like India and China, where traditional villages are displaced by big infrastructure projects," he added.

The $11 billion Belo Monte hydroelectric dam — which if completed would be the world's third-largest such project — was cleared for construction Feb. 1 by the Environment Ministry. Bidding for prospective builders is expected to take place later this month.

Brazil's government has said that even if it can't find private partners for the dam's construction on the Xingu River, which feeds the Amazon River, the nation has the funds to finish the project itself.

The administration of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva argues that the dam will provide clean energy and is needed to meet current and future energy needs.

Environmentalists are sharply opposed. They say it will devastate wildlife and the livelihoods of 40,000 people who live in the area to be flooded. They also argue that the energy generated by the dam will largely go to big mining operations in the Amazon, not benefit the average person. - from yahoo

Holy week vacation

Had a long weekend,. and I spent my saturday with a friend swimming in a resort in Calamba, Laguna: 88 KOREA For an entrance fee of PhP500 bucks, I have to say it was well worth it. I had my own locker where I can place my things. Plus I got to bring in some chips.

The only thing that I didn't like about the resort was that the Ladies room did not allow much privacy. Like the shower room which was not divided into the usual cubicles. I guess Koreans are just like that. You'll often see Korean women in their birthday suit just to blowdry their hair.

I don't know whether this is a plus, but there were weird um:

Emie of freshaire, did make it easier. she offered kind words of advice like what was the right length for me, and what type of treatments should i get since my hair was rebonded.



I also get my nails manicured, although I was irritated when the manicurist eho was doing the nail art said, "baka hindi mo ma-appreciate dahil hindi ka marunong mag-appreciate ng art."


Even though her comment was rather degrading, I didn't retort anything bad, because after all, I am still under her care, mind you ha, I left pa tip.


Well, I did get what i wanted, a subtle art on my nail, rather than the one that she was pushing, a beach ekek...

IMAGINE owning your own summer villa with an amazing view of the South China Sea, and next door are not your usual neighbors but the sun, sea, flora and fauna, all easily within reach.

This is now possible via Camaya Coast, an ecotourism development destination complemented by commercial establishments and residential enclaves. It is 173 kilometers north of Manila and less than three hours from Manila by land.

Manuel Ilagan, president of Earth and Shore Leisure Communities Corporation, the developers of Camaya Coast, says, “The merger of the commercialism with nature is distinctly Camaya. We are going to redevelop the properties on the beach. In Camaya, we aim for continuous adaptation of environment.”

What Ilagan is presenting in Camaya Coast are villas and condos in modern tropical look developed by Philippine GeoAnalytics Group of Companies. “We are proposing a Mediterenan look, thin clean lines that are able to mesh well with seaside development, for the lot owners who we will allow to build after they submit their designs,” Ilagan says. The first clusters of the condominium and villa are expected to be delivered by first quarter of 2011.

Apart from the residential units, Earth and Shore is also developing a hotel in the area that it expects to be finished by 2011. Ilagan says the hotel has about 75 to 100 rooms, and Earth and Shore partnered with Club Leisure, operator of Camp John Hay, for the success of the hotel.

Earth and Shore is also putting up a nature park in a 40-hectare space, setting aside about 15 to 20 hectares for the expansion of the nature park that has mountains and springs that lot owners can treat as their own backyard. Ilagan says, “It would be more fun for the buyers if there would be an abundance of mountains. If we develop it this way, the children will have an idea of an environment integrated with community that they are in. So, with that in mind, we’re also protecting the future generations in understanding the environment, not just develop for profit. We have three waterfalls and natural springs that merge with the sea. Actually, they are developable, but we are going to leave them as is.”

With all these, you’d think Camaya Coast is as it is. But no, it offers more, like endless possibilities for leisure activities. Ilagan shares, “The romance of the sea is timeless, so that is definitely something that we will bank on in Camaya. The swimming pools, chill-out bar, and karaoke room are something for people to enjoy in the day.”

Ilagan looks forward to building a sports mall where speedboats, banana boats, kayaking, biking, zip-ling, and various interests groups can bank on. He says, “We’d let various interests groups come in, tying up with the group that already exists. We do not have a limit on what can be done.”

MAJA SALVADOR: THE FACE OF 2010

PROUDLY, Maja Salvador proclaims that she is now a woman. The 21-year-old actress thinks so, not only because of age, but also because of the characters that she now plays. “Sa business kasi na ‘to ang dami ko na ding napagdaanan. Halos madami na rin akong roles na ginawang pa-tweetums. For me, ngayon challenging itong ginagawa kong mature roles na kailangan kong panindigan at ipakita sa lahat ng tao na kaya kong gawin,” she says.

She shares that she instantly fell in love with her character, Celine, in the afternoon soap Nagsimula sa Puso. “Malayo siya sa mga ginagawa ko dati. Challenging siya. Gusto ko kasi parati akong nacha-challenge,” she says. “Kailangan mo talagang ma-challenge para mailabas mo ‘yung best mo at para makita ng mga tao na mahal mo ‘yung ginagawa mo.”

Admittedly, she first found it hard to shift to a more mature role, but slowly, she became more comfortable with Celine.

She said it was all because of directors, Malou Sevilla and Darnell Villaflor, who gently not only encouraged her but also took care of her, especially when it came down to shooting the show’s more intimate scenes. “Wala naman pinapakita. Kumbaga, kissing scene lang tapos ‘yun na. Nag-kiss tapos higa na. Kumbaga alaga pa din,” she says. “Alam ko naman na hindi ako bibigyan ng project ng ABS na hindi ikakatulong ng career ko.”

What drew her more into doing the project was that the ‘90s movie it was based upon was produced by Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN president

Unknown to many, Charo and Maja have a special kind of relationship as Charo was the one who discovered her. “Hinanap ko kasi ‘yung dad ko noon, tapos lumabas ako sa The Buzz. Swerte, dahil nanood si Miss Charo. Tapos parang may nagsabi sa ‘kin gusto daw akong makilala ni Miss Charo, ‘yung batang naghahanap ng tatay niya. After nu’n, meeting. Du’n sa meeting, sabi n’ya siya daw ang mag-o-open ng window para maging star ako,” she says.

A promise which Santos and ABS-CBN is now fulfilling as Maja is tagged a string of labels: Horror Princess, Dance Princess, and even Princess of Billboards.

Maja says her career is just where she wants it to be. She says, “Kahit hindi naman ako bida binibigyan ng bida roles, nararamdaman ko na special naman ako sa ABS. Hindi naman ako napapabayaan, kasi pag walang show, may movie. Pag walang movie, may soap. Hindi ko nararamdamn na walang nangyayari sa career ko.”

If there’s one thing that Maja hopes for in her career, it would be longevity, like the one that people she looks up to in the industry--Vilma Santos, Maricel Soriano, Sharon Cuneta, and Judy Ann Santos--has. Where her career is going, she trusts fully in her handlers. “Management ang nagde-decide, tapos tatanungin ako kung okay sa ‘kin. Ayun, pag-aaralan ko kong kakayanin,” she says.

As for future projects, genre would never be a problem for this gifted young actress, who has a new show with Sam Milby this year. “Gusto ko ma-experience lahat, kahit action movies,” she says. And yes, she prefers challenging roles like a prostitute and would like to veer away from the generic type of protagonist—the poor girl that everyone pities. Instead, she would like to play a “palaban na character,” just like Celine.

Or just like Maja herself. As a celebrity, she has been a victim of intrigues, but Maja has risen above them all. She says, “Hindi ka naman magtatagumpay kung wala kang pinagdadaanan para maging strong ka para marating mo ‘yung kong nasaan ka man ngayon.”

With such strength, Maja will definitely more this year and in the coming years.

On love: “Dapat pinag-iisipan kasi pag pinasok mo ‘yan, hindi lang naman ‘yan ‘yung boyfriend-girlfriend na wala lang. Siyempre may mga responsibilities ka din na kailangang pagdesisyunan na todo-todo, hindi laro-laro lang. Pagpapahalaga din siya sa sarili mo at pagbibigay importansiya sa taong nagmamahal sa ‘yo.”

On making the first move: “Hindi, Maria Clara ako, eh. Minsan nga may magtatanong sa ‘kin, ‘O, lumabas na kayo?’ ‘Kiniss ka na ba n’ya?’ Ako naman, ‘Hindi no!’”

harry potter

call me the late ana v,. yah, because it was only now that i became hooked on harry potter (the book). i've seen the movies and all that but really didn't enthrall me to go grab a copy of the novel.
not unlike the time traveller's wife which moved me to tears, and i pleaded my sister macaria to gift me with published version. hmm the time traveller's wife held me spell bound, although i already knew the story and all that, i didn't want it to end that i keep on re reading the pages and chapters just so i wouldn't finish the book.

oh well,. yan nanaman ako sumesgue nanaman sa topic,.
well,. because i like the experience (?) seeing a movie and then reading it afterwards i thought, why not try harry potter,. so while doing my end of the year general cleaning, i happened to bump into my brother's unread copy of the bestseller.
i'm currently reading harry potter and the sorcerer's stone and it is good, very good in fact that i've been scouting for a book two, have a copy?

SUCCESS, Erich Gonzales believes, is something that you have to work for. She speaks from experience.

After winning the Star Circle Quest in 2005, Erich has played an array of characters on television--a meddling sister to a destined couple (Sana Maulit Muli), an older sister to a half blind kung fu kid (Kung Fu Kids), and an encouraging friend to a horse whisperer (Ligaw na Bulaklak). Her biggest break, however, came when she was cast as Nene, a fourteen-year-old girl who becomes pregnant in the prime time soap Katorse, a role originally portrayed by Dina Bonevie.

ABS-CBN took four years to give her what many would consider a breakthrough role. But Erich is not complaining. Rather, she feels blessed. She shares, “I’ve waited for four years for this break. I can say it’s worth the wait. I’m really blessed and thankful.” Blessed she is, with a growing fan base and soap leading the early evening slot in both nationwide and Metro Manila rating.

“Everything has its time talaga,” she says in her distinctive husky voice, adding that the project came when she was already settled and ready to accept mature roles.

This Cebu-born-Davao-bred lass admitted, though, that she was reluctant at first to accept the role of Nene as it would require her to do kissing and love scenes. Nonetheless, it was the story that got her to say yes. After all, Katorse hopes to inculcate values to its teenage viewers about teenage pregnancy. She adds, “It’s like a wake-up call for the teens na huwag silang magmadali, huwag silang pabigla-bigla, and to wait for the right time.” She trusts that her audience will learn from Nene’s mistakes, “kasi mayroon namang time para sa lahat ng bagay. Makinig sila sa magulang nila.”

Because of the nature of her role in Katorse, Erich has been labeled a sexy actress by some. Some have even hinted that she had had breast augmentation. But Erich stresses that the rumors are all a lie, even daring the one who started them to give proof. “It’s my personal choice not to,” says Erich on why she hasn’t gone under the knife. “There’s nothing wrong with that naman, pero I’m satisfied with what I have.”

Its intrigues like this that Erich has learned to shun, as she knows what is the truth and the people who matter to her believe her as well. What she chooses to focus on is honing her craft. Despite headlining her own teleserye, Erich is the first to admit that she still has a lot to prove in this industry. “Gusto kong maging versatile (actress). Gusto ko din to portray different roles, yung mga challenging roles, mga hindi ko pa nagagawa before. Sobrang love ko kasi ‘tong work na ‘to,” she says. She loves it so much she even took voice and dance lessons. But no, she makes it clear that she won’t be releasing an album any time soon.

Although she has no upcoming record, we would be seeing more of Erich. She has an entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, a movie with Katorse leading man Enchong Dee, and one more teleserye.

Looks like this is turning out to be a big year for Erich. The actress, however, takes it all in stride. She says, “Fame naman is something na hindi ka dapat malunod.”
